Liz Maw graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in 2002 and lives and works in Auckland. Raised a Catholic, Maw’s paintings enmesh contemporary subjects with religious and pseduo-religious iconography. Maw’s painterly style references the ‘mystic glow’, an angelic and divine characteristic evident in holy painting tradition. The subjects in the paintings can be read as 21st century deities.
