ARTIS Gallery presents a joint exhibition by British artists John Blackburn & Margaret Lovell. ‘All Fired Up’, which opens on Tuesday 12th February, explores the seminal ‘Fire Paintings’ of Blackburn and contrasts it against the flued organic forms of Lovell’s bronze sculptures.

John Blackburn (b.1932,) best known for his striking abstract works, completed a series of thirty paintings in 2017 – 18 and exhibited them at Osborne Samuel, London, in September 2018. Four of these works will be exhibited at ARTIS Gallery in February 2019 along with a series of his recent New Zealand paintings.

Margaret Lovell (b.1939) is an award-winning sculptor and Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. Lovell’s works engage powerfully with the space and environment it inhabits. Her works are largely in bronze and vary in size from miniature to monumental. Since moving from England to New Zealand, Lovell has immersed herself in the essence of the undulating landscape and ever-changing atmosphere caused by the weather.
