How does a gallery care for its artworks? What does conservation or restoration really mean? What is involved in repairing damaged artworks?

Here's your chance to find out. Enjoy an intimate tour of the Gallery’s behind-the-scenes work and engage in meaningful discussions with experts. You'll be guided by the conservation and registration teams, who have many years of experience, including Principal Conservator Sarah Hillary and Senior Registrar Julie Koke.

During the tour, you will hear fascinating stories of success and challenges, see their work in progress, and experience the laboratory environments where 21st-century magic happens. Hundreds of artworks move through the Gallery during a year, coming in for exhibitions or to join our collection, or heading out on loan to other places. See how these valuable works are handled, packed, stored and tracked as they make their way out in the world – sometimes around the globe. Visit the art store and talk with the registrars who manage this incredibly complex underground powerhouse.

Don't miss this exclusive opportunity. Invite friends or whānau and enjoy the behind-the-scenes experience of a lifetime.
