The Directors of Te Uru, Auckland and Adam Art Gallery, Wellington have great pleasure in inviting you to an exclusive fundraising preview of the exhibition A way through, Colin McCahon's Gate III.

As part of the Colin McCahon centenary year and to celebrate the ‘return’ to Auckland of McCahon’s epic 1970 mural, Gate III, we have organised an exclusive first-view evening with the theme, Big Paintings, Big Stories. Please join us for quick-fire presentations from speakers Christina Barton, Finn McCahon-Jones, Helen Beaglehole, Wystan Curnow, Judy Millar, Hamish Keith and Linda Tyler; live music from Trio Espressivo, refreshments from Hidden World Gin & Epic Beer, live and silent auctions and the chance to meet the custodians of this iconic work.

We are delighted to be working with Victoria University of Wellington to offer the first Auckland appearance of McCahon’s magnificent painting since it was commissioned for Auckland City Art Gallery’s Ten Big Paintings exhibition in 1971. Literally a ‘one painting’ exhibition, ‘A way through’ gives audiences an opportunity to get up close to one of McCahon’s biggest but least well-known paintings, and to learn about its history and its message through a fascinating display of archival material gathered especially for the occasion.

Big Paintings, Big Stories will launch an opening weekend of events. Don’t miss this opportunity to share this moment with us and to support Te Uru!

A special bus will be available on Friday night to transport guests from Auckland Art Gallery to Te Uru and back. For transport inquiries, please contact us via info@teuru.org.nz.

Developed and toured by Adam Art Gallery Te Pātaka Toi. Supported by Dame Jenny Gibbs.
