Get a personal introduction to the new exhibition Tai Moana Tai Tangata from artist Brett Graham.

In extraordinary sculptures and accompanying films, Brett Graham (Ngāti Korokī Kahukura, Tainui) revisits key events from the shared history of Tainui and Taranaki Māori, who suffered some of the harshest penalties during the colonisation of Aotearoa by the British. Co-opting the visual language of military architecture and public war memorials, Graham’s works testify to the lessons and legacies of those experiences and sound an urgent warning. This project was first developed in collaboration with Anna-Marie White (Manukorihi, Te Āti Awa) for the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in Ngāmotu New Plymouth. For its presentation in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Graham connects these ideas to local histories through the inclusion of a major new sculpture.
