Toi Tauranga Warmly invites you to an evening conversation with local featured Artists Tracy Stamatakos, Duane Moyle, Elliot Mason, and Curator Ellie Smith.

Ellie will share insights into her curatorial research for the exhibition and draw threads between Tauranga artists past and present. While esteemed local artists Tracy, Duane, and Elliot will share their deep affection for Moana. You’ll hear how these artists take inspiration from the ocean, their individual approach to their art practices, and what it is to be a creative in Tauranga.

Ellie Smith Curated Tauranga Moana Waterscapes 1800s – Present for Tauranga Art gallery which opened in February 2024 and runs through to June 3. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Classical Studies, and is a Master of Arts Museum Studies candidate. Ellie has greatly contributed to the arts ecology of Tauranga, holding positions at Tauranga Art Gallery, Baycourt Community and Arts Center, Supercut Projects, and now working as the Community Arts Advisor for Tauranga City Council.


Duane Moyle has exhibited extensively across New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Using traditional modes of art making, Duane is interested in ancient wisdom, myths, legends, and human truths, drawing on knowledge from the past to form a new perspective on the present. Tracy Stamatakos is an editorial, commercial, and fine art photographer, highly regarded for her stylised simplicity. Her portfolio captures human connection and the quiet mystery of New Zealand landscapes and seascapes. Elliot Mason is a painter and sculptor who is interested in the natural environment, often highlighting historical and current environmental issues. Calling attention to the sublime beauty of the land and sea, the work brings awareness of the human impact on the environment. Eliiot's works Blue Lines, and Blue Squares are currently showing in Tauranga Moana Waterscapes. @elliotmason
