Join Depot Artspace on the first Saturday of the month to welcome two new August exhibitions: Ji Ben Ou’s spring solo Suspended Ink 悬浮油墨, and group show Material Instincts featuring emerging contemporary artists Hulita Koloi, Malaki Peter Lakisoe Aiono, Ana Garcia, Llenyd Price, Ken Khun. Ji Ben Ou’s Suspended Ink 悬浮油墨 is a vibrant observation of the natural world at its ripest, drawing from a decades-long practice in Chinese ink and watercolour painting. An established landscape artist, here Ben Ou presents close studies of spring wildlife and rural scenes in this selection of smaller works on paper.

Material Instinct explores the intersecting practices of Hulita Koloi, Malaki Peter Lakisoe Aiono, Ana Garcia, Llenyd Price and Ken Khun. Materiality plays a significant role in our cultural identities; the versatility that comes from materials can give rise to new meanings which we bestow onto them, forever changing how one reads many daily objects in relation to their original function.

Complimentary refreshments will be provided courtesy of Toi Toi Wines.

Ferries from Downtown Auckland to Devonport are just a 15 minute trip from the CBD. We recommend catching a ferry into Devonport on Saturdays.

Free entry, all welcome.
