How can our atmosphere and weather patterns be used as an art medium? In her moving image installations and films, Dr Janine Randerson practices a ‘social meteorology’ that connects environmental science to community politics.

Artworks can offer sensory engagement with our current and future weathers, while creating openings for immediate action in the present. Randerson will show excerpts from her recent video works including Albedo of Clouds (2013/2018) exhibited last year at the Hermitage, St Petersburg; and Waiho, Retreat (2017), filmed on Kā Roimata o Hinehukatere, the retreating Franz Josef glacier. Randerson is an artist and Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design at AUT University, Auckland.
