Curator floor talk with Jane Vial

Saturday 24 November, 11am

Join exhibition curator Jane Vial for this informative floor talk on Elizabeth Lissaman: the Art of Pottery. This is the first major exhibition of work by the New Zealand potter since 1991.

Marlborough-born Elizabeth Lissaman was New Zealand’s pioneer studio potter, designing, throwing, decorating, firing and selling her earthenware pottery continuously for almost 70 years. Lissaman’s work is not widely known yet her impact alongside other female potters of her generation including Briar Gardner and Olive Jones demonstrates her commitment to forging a serious and entirely unique ceramic practice.

Jane Vial is an art historian and curator who co-wrote a book on Elizabeth Lissaman for Marlborough Museum that was published in 2018 by Rim Books.
