Join Starkwhite Queenstown on Thursday 3 August at 6:30pm to hear Australian artist Paul Davies speak about his practice and the complex, layered paintings that result.
Based between Sydney and Los Angeles, Davies' work is driven by friction between opposing forces of built and natural environments, design and art, abstraction and figuration. These boundaries and relationships are illustrated through his process, which combines painting, stenciling, photography and sculpture.
Davies' homage to mid-century aesthetics and its inherent tensions prompts questions as to what lies beneath his depictions of highly desirable homes and pool-side glamour.
The gallery will be open from 5pm - 7pm for First Thursdays.
