Andrew Jensen opened the gallery in New Zealand in 1988 and over the course of more than thirty years it has set itself aside in terms of its seamless presentation of international work alongside the most considered practices from the region. In early 2011 the gallery expanded to Australia opening a second site in Sydney.

Presenting exhibitions by major artists such as Imi Knoebel, Fred Sandback, Tony Oursler, Helmut Federle, Günter Umberg, James Casebere, Winston Roeth, Jacqueline Humphries, Elisabeth Vary and Callum Innes altered and enriched the “local” conditions.

It provided the basis for an increasingly expansive approach which has seen the curated aspect of the gallery grow. There have been numerous notable projects including E=MC2 (Sandback, Umberg, Innes), Naked, The Architecture of Colour, Six Degrees of Separation, Points of Orientation, Detox, Melancholia, The Authority of Death, Farben, Saturation, There’s Joy in Repetition, Pink and most recently Portrait without a Face. These projects introduced the work artists such as Eric Fischl, John McLaughlin, Agnes Martin, Joseph Albers, Karin Sander, Thomas Ruff, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Ryman, Gabriel de la Mora and Spencer Finch.

The gallery has since gone on to add further artists from abroad including Jan Albers (Ger), Erin Lawlor (UK) and Jane Bustin (UK) and to deepen its commitment to its Australasian artists which include the celebrated painters Aida Tomescu, Tomislav Nikolic, Judith Wright and Geoff Thornley as well as a newer generation of artists including Coen Young, Matthew Allen and Ceara Metlikovec.

2019 will see the considerable expansion of the galleries program again and we are thrilled to welcome Lawrence Carroll (USA), Hanns Kunitzberger (GER), Aiko Robinson (NZ/JPN) and Liat Yossifor. Further to this, curated projects in both Sydney and Auckland will introduce the works of Hayv Kahraman (USA), Hoda Afshar (IRN/AUS) and Gideon Rubin (UK) amongst others.

Fox Jensen, Sydney and Fox Jensen McCrory, Auckland are run in close partnership with its artists by Andrew Jensen, Emma Fox and Sarah McCrory. It participates annually in Art Basel Hong Kong, whilst remaining committed to its gallery program.
