Gently Ribbed is a playful installation by Turumeke Harrington, presented with accompanying writing and discussion led by Tini Whetū and collaborators. This exhibition takes Harrington's voluminous, snaking patchwork as an invitation to reflect on domestic labour, Māori cosmology and moving through life.
Turumeke Harrington (Ngāi Tahu) creates large sculptural installations at the intersection of art and design, exploring whakapapa, space, colour and material. Tini Whetū Project Space is a curatorial passion project facilitated by Piupiu Maya Turei (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne) which curates enjoyable art experiences rooted in kaupapa Māori methodologies.
He toi puni ngangahau a Āta Rarai nā Turumeke Harrington, i whakaatu mai ki te taha o ōna hoa tuhi, o ōna hoa matapaki kua ārahina e te kāhui o Tini Whetū. He tono tēnei whakaaturanga o te mahi raurarahi me te kōpurepure kōpikopiko ā Harrington hei whakahuritao i te mahi ā-kāinga, te mātai tuārangi me te whakakokenga oranga.
Ka hangaia e Turumeke Harrington (Ngāi Tahu) he toi puni tātaitanga rarahi kei te kukuitianga o te toi me te hoahoa, e tōmene ana i te whakapapa, te wāhi, ngā tae me ngā momo rawa. Ko te Wāhi Hinonga o Tini Whetū he whiringa ngākau o te kairauhī kua whakaritea e Piupiu Maya Turei (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne) ka rauhī i ngā wheako toi pārekareka kua whai tāmore i ngā tikanga toi o te kaupapa Māori.
