Gordon Walters grew up in Rongotai, attended classes at Wellington Technical College, and exhibited early work at the public library.

Join us at Te Papa to hear Julia Waite, one of the curators of Gordon Walters: New Vision, currently showing at Te Papa, talk about the exhibition and the Wellington libraries, museums, and coffee houses that shaped his life and practice. Then we’ll head to McLeavey Gallery for afternoon tea, where Julia will chat with Hilary and Olivia McLeavey about the gallery and Walters’ relationship with his art dealer, Peter McLeavey.

Please note: McLeavey Gallery is not wheelchair or mobility device accessible. The gallery is located up two flights of stairs, on the first floor at 147 Cuba Street. The building does not have a lift. Seating will be available in the gallery.
