In the time of the Anthropocene, conspiracy theories and other escalating crises; when our access to truth is now in question, what does painting and its traditions mean now? What does it mean to paint when we can’t be sure of – or believe in – what is true or real anymore, how then can we trust a painting?
Referencing these traditions Wellington-based painters Martin Basher and Ben Buchanan explore the conditions and perspective of painting now in their exhibition SOUR GAPES.
Join us to interrogate these questions further. Our panel will offer their perspectives on whether they trust painting through a selected work followed by a short discussion. Come open to be compelled and convinced, our panel will offer answers, but the conclusion is yours to make.
