Celebrate the colourful world of Iain Cheesman in this standout major solo show at The Vivian. Iain’s work is well-loved and can be found in many local and international collections.

The exhibition showcases a broad-ranging body of new work Iain has been developing in his Waiuku studio over the past year, and is also a timely platform for the launch of Iain’s third book of poetry, of the same name.

The Vivian is also proud to showcase the work of young Melbourne painter, Nicholas Ives, in his first small-scale show in the South Gallery. Nick’s work is already highly regarded in Australia, and we are proud to be able to represent him in New Zealand.

Nick’s practice seems dark at first; with hooded, oddly costumed figures that loom quizzically from timeless landscapes. But they are also exercises in humour, drawing influences from video gaming and comics, to the timelessly powerful work of old masters such as Goya and Rubens.
