Michael Lett is pleased to present a conversation between artist Marie Shannon and curator Christina Barton on the occasion of 1984–1987, an exhibition of early paintings by Julian Dashper.

Filmed by Darryl Ward at Dashper and Shannon's home and studio in Waterview, the conversation covers Dashper's personal and professional life in his first years as a practicing artist, the changing cultures around contemporary art in Aotearoa in the 1980s, and the ways in which Dashper situated himself between local and international understandings of contemporary art during this period.

This recording features generously provided archival material from the Julian Dashper Archive and others, and can be accessed here at michaellett.com.
