McLeavey Gallery invite you to join us on Saturday 15 July from 12pm (midday), for kōrero between Areez and Nirvana Haldar.

Nirvana Haldar (she/they) is a Tāmaki Makaurau based writer and visual artist. Their inquiry moves somewhere between the personal, the political and the social. Having migrated to Aotearoa 5 years ago from Mumbai, today their interests lie within exploring different rituals of pedagogy (of care, of resistance) that the diasporic and postcolonial identities inhabit in different spaces (domestic, public).

Areez and Nirvana are friends and intergenerational peers who routinely share and discuss their commonalities around residing in Aotearoa as tauiwi and the embodied experiences of displacement from their shared birthplace, Mumbai, India.

McLeavey Gallery would like to extend an invitation to attend and engage in this kōrero between dear friends. They would like to request opening with a summons from the poet Ocean Vuong: “[...] to take off the shoes of my voice, so that I may enter a place with care, so that I can do the work I need to.”
