Kete Aronui film club presents The Kingmaker (2019) by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield.
Centered on the indomitable character of Imelda Marcos, The Kingmaker examines, with intimate access, the Marcos family’s improbable return to power in the Philippines. The film explores the disturbing legacy of the Marcos regime and chronicles Imelda’s then push to help her son, Bongbong, win the vice-presidency. An interesting reflection in the present day with Bongbong winning the Philippines presidency this year in 2022.
Kete Aronui film club is a free monthly film programme held at Gus Fisher Gallery made possible with the help of Auckland Council.
