Artist Hiria Anderson will discuss her creative practice and her new series of paintings which feature in Waikato Museum's exhibition Toi is Rongoaa.

Working from her studio on Ootorohanga where her grandparents lived, Hiria captures the poeticism of the everyday and with it the interplay between tikanga Maaori and contemporary municipal life. Her tribal affiliations include Ngaati Maniapoto, Ngaati Apakura, Ngaati Rereahu.

Open now at Waikato Museum, Toi is Rongoaa celebrates fourteen contemporary Maaori artists who believe in the importance of creative practice to their wellbeing. The invited artists have been supported by Creative New Zealand to make new work and share this essential kaupapa with our community.
