It is an absolute privilege for us to invite you to the opening of Manu Tutetute by award-winning artists, Charles & Janine Williams.

In collaboration with the Nelson Arts Festival, this show is both a conversation and celebration of the artist's journey in strengthening identity. Renowned around the world for their visual storytelling in public spaces, urban artists Charles Williams (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa, Ngāi Tuhoe, Te Whakatōhea, Ngā Puhi) and Janine Williams (Ngāti Paoa, Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara), explore the intricacies of identity versus cultural misconceptions in this exhibition of mixed media works – a must-see celebration of ngā toi Māori!

The bird who ruffles feathers and challenges others towards greater awareness, Manu Tutetute encapsulates Charles and Janine's 25-year creative practice and journey towards greater enlightenment. Exploring the notion of identity, the collision of ancient and modern realms are found within the strokes and lines of discovery.

Manu Tutetute opens at 5:30pm on Saturday 19 October, followed by an artist kōrero at 6:30pm. Come along to enjoy this striking and profound body of work, and hear the artists discuss the ideas that have influenced them.
