Artist talk and shared lunch
tetuhi.artJoin artist Claudia Kogachi to learn about the preparation of spam musubi, and for a shared lunch. Musubi is a favourite meal of Claudia and her obaachan (grandmother), as pictured in Claudia’s work for Te Tuhi’s Project Wall, Obaachan during the lockdown, Wahiawā, Hawaiʻi (2020).
Spam, the main ingredient in musubi, initially came to Hawaiʻi during WWII with the US military. Musubi was created during the war, evolving over time into its contemporary form: a slice of grilled spam on top of rice, wrapped together with nori. Since that time musubi has become hugely popular in Hawaiʻi.
Claudia will give a brief introduction to her work, followed by the meal preparation and lunch together. Miso soup, tea, and a sweet are included; a vegan option will also be provided. Bring a family member or friend and a good appetite.
Extra health precautions will be in place. If you register but become unwell on the day, please let us know, and stay home and get better.
To register, please email misong@tetuhi.art or phone +64 9 577 0138 with your name, contact details and any food allergies/dietary requirements.
