Screening of selected works with introduction by Tobias Berger

Join us as we explore the pioneering world of Nam June Paik, dubbed the "father of video art", in a one-off film screening and special interview with Tobias Berger, Head of Arts at Tai Kwun and former Chief Curator at the Nam June Paik Centre. Selected pioneering short films by Paik will be screened that uniquely dissect and disrupt the medium of television.
The film screening will take place downstairs from Gus Fisher Gallery in Studio One, the site of the first public television broadcast in Aotearoa. This event is also a rare opportunity to see inside Studio One and learn about the early years of broadcasting while watching films by one of the most exciting and experimental artists to work with the medium of television. Tea and coffee provided.
The selected films are:
–Missa of Zen and Electronic Moon, 1966-69.
–Good Morning Mr Orwell, 1984.
–Analogue Assemblage, 2000.
Tobias Berger is the Head of Art at Tai Kwun, the newly opened Centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong. Between 2003 and March 2005, he was Director of ARTSPACE in Auckland, New Zealand. From April 2005 to December 2008, he was the Executive Director of Para/Site Art Space in Hong Kong, and from 2008 to 2010 Chief Curator at the Nam June Paik Art Center in Seoul, South Korea. From 2010 to 2015 Tobias was Curator Visual Arts at M+ in Hong Kong.
