Featuring works by artists Alice Langbrown, Dayle Palfreyman, Steph Arrowsmith and Willa Smart, 'On Blushing' is a group exhibition by debut curator Tom Denize, showing at Enjoy Contemporary Art Space from 10 June to 21 July.
In media ranging from painting to sculptural installation, metal casting to text art, the artworks in 'On Blushing' are permeated with longing and yearning. Reflecting on adolescent romanticism and fantasies of becoming, the exhibition is peppered with lush imagery, references to vampire romances, visceral transformations and exchanges with the animal and plant worlds. Denize’s curation leads the audience on a journey invoking the absent presence of eros, which comes alive at the boundary of flesh and self between self and other. From the exhibition statement “These works reveal the twist in the stomach, the tear leaking through the vision sick with beauty. A moment of life in the likeness, the movement and melting of statues.”
