Pōhatu Roa: Stories in Stone showcases the skills of artists who have sculpted, carved, drilled and cut this tough and sometimes inflexible material. Join us at The Dowse to celebrate the opening of Pōhatu Roa: Stories in Stone with artist and curator talks and tours, and hear about the foraging, finding, processing and shaping of stone into art.

10.30am: Chris Charteris and Renée Pearson talk about the processes of working with stone. Alongside Dowse Director and Curator of Pōhatu Roa, Karl Chitham, hear about how Chris and Renée shape the stone they work with to create their artworks.

11.30am: Tim Steel will share about the sourcing and properties of the different types of stones he has worked with for the show. With raw and partially worked examples, talk all things stone with Tim before heading into the gallery with Joe Sheehan to continue the focus on the materials with reference to the works on display.

Pōhatu Roa: Stories in Stone features works by Chris Charteris, Craig McIntosh, Neke Moa, Renée Pearson, Fayne Robinson, Joe Sheehan and Tim Steel.
