Ōtautahi’s most celebrated urban gatherer offers us his insights and tips from a life of living off the land. Q&A session afterwards.

Since the first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, many people are recognising a need to be more self-sufficient without having to rely on constant visits to the supermarket. Professional wild foods forager Peter Langlands is in demand throughout New Zealand, educating people on how to achieve food resiliency by locating and utilising the free resources available in their area.

Although Peter doesn't seek publicity, appearances on Country Calendar, a Frank Films' short documentary and numerous magazine and news media articles during 2020 cemented him in the position of one of New Zealand's most respected foraging gurus. Peter's BSc Zoology/Ecology qualification has provided essential research and identification skills which allow him to forage wild foods for some of New Zealand's award-winning restaurants. Peter's presentations will discuss the background of this work, as well as health and other benefits of foraging, what main resources to look out for (and pitfalls to avoid!), preparation ideas, and an insight into how he started foraging.
