Join Ruby Solly for a performance of taonga pūoro to close off Enjoy's 2023 exhibition year. The performance will begin at 1pm, finishing with karakia, kai and kōrero.


Ruby Solly (Kāi Tahu, Waitaha, Kāti Māmoe) is a writer, musician and taonga pūoro practitioner living in Pōneke. She has played with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Whirimako Black, Trinity Roots, and The New Zealand String Quartet. In 2019 she completed a Masters thesis in the therapeutic potential of taonga pūoro in mental health based music therapy, while working in schools, hospitals, prisons and with private clients from iwi around the motu. Solly's first book of poetry, Tōku Pāpā, was published in 2021 and longlisted for the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her second book, The Artist, was published in 2023. In 2020 she released her debut album, Pōneke, and in 2021, Bird Like Men, as part of the group Tararua. She is currently completing a PhD in public health, focusing on the use of taonga pūoro in hauora Māori.
