Samoa House was built with funds raised by the Samoa House Appeal Fund and opened in 1979. The site includes the first fale built outside of Samoa and previously housed the Samoan consulate alongside community spaces and offices. Join us for a special panel discussion on the history of Samoa House and Pacific architectural practice more broadly with speakers Karamia Müller, Elisapeta Heta, Albert Refiti and facilitated by Leone Samu Tui.
Dr Karamia Müller is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries, Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland.
Elisapeta Heta is the Kaihautū Whaihanga – Māori Design Leader at Jasmax.
Albert Refiti is an Associate Professor in the School of Art & Design, Auckland University of Technology.
Leone Samu Tui is Associate Curator, Documentary and Heritage (Pacific Collections), at the Auckland War Memorial Meseum.
This talanoa is presented in collaboration between Samoa House Library and Gus Fisher Gallery on the occasion of Creation Stories, a collaborative project by Müller and Simon Denny, exhibiting between Gus Fisher Gallery and Michael Lett. A complimentary lunch will be served following the talk from 2-3pm.
