Museums are governed by legal and ethical frameworks that determine how collections are managed.

With reference to New Zealand and international precedents, Gina Irish, one of Aotearoa’s most experienced registrars, will explore the intersection between law and cultural heritage, and the ethical issues museums encounter when acquiring, borrowing and lending collections. Gina has led the Gallery’s registration team and will shortly take on the role of Senior Loans and Acquisitions Advisor at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
