The Heart of the Matter (DVD 2016, 89min) looks at major changes in New Zealand teaching which began after World War II. A group of bureaucrats and arts specialists set about introducing a ‘thoroughly bicultural and arts-centred education system’ in schools – in contrast to the rote learning of the past.

In association with the exhibition Ralph Hotere: Ātete (to resist). Screening courtesy of BWX Productions.
