Join The Vivian this Saturday for the opening of three major shows. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or a crafty beer from sponsors – The Sawmill Brewery.⁣

⁣⁣ ⁣Towards The Forest asks artists to consider the use of landscape as a metaphor for the unknown; the erratic, sometimes frightening – but ultimately hopeful – times we live in. The works are bold, dark, mischievous and sometimes humorous, but they are all excellent examples of the calibre of art being produced in Aotearoa and Australia today.⁣ ⁣⁣

⁣As well as our represented artists (including a sensational work by Patricia Piccinini not to be missed!) and regular guest artists, this show features some outstanding work from Brent Harris courtesy of Robert Heald Gallery, Wellington, Michael Springer, Rebecca Harris, and introducing young artist Nick Jamieson for the first time. This unique group show has been 6 months in the planning.

Monique Lacey's Weight of the World is showing in the South Gallery. This is Monique’s first major solo show at The Vivian. Just back from a very successful exhibition in the US, Monique’s crushed forms and layered textures proved a big hit at the recent Auckland Art Fair. She’s been working hard in her Auckland studio to produce a range of works that are powerful, elegant and punchy.

The Vivian is also thrilled to welcome back internationally-renowned performance artist Ivan Lupi for the world-premiere performance of A Private Requiem. Dark, deeply moving and brave, this 5-day endurance performance will take place each day 11-5pm from Thursday 16th May to Monday 20th May at The Vivian. Visitors are welcome to experience each stage as it evolves, and also take part at specific times. Please show your support by popping in any time during the performance.
