Event Details

Toi Tauranga welcomes you to an insightful conversation with local creatives and leaders, exploring the themes of place and time through the medium of our iconic place - Tauranga Moana. The discussion draws inspiration from themes of arrival, exploration, settlement, and disaster, expressed in music, story-telling, and the multiplicity of traditional and contemporary art forms.

How do artists and creatives today draw meaning and inspiration from this place? Each panellist will speak from their unique perspective about the impact and influence Tauranga Moana’s history, whakapapa, pūrākau, and whakataukī has had on their creative practices. You will hear from leading artists, designers, signers and writers.

The evening will be hosted by Toi Tauranga Director, Sonya Korohina. The panel discussion will be led by Antoine Coffin of Ngai Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Raukawa and French ancestry.

Antoine is a specialist of 25 years’ experience in arts, culture, heritage and environmental management, Treaty settlements and facilitation. He is a qualified RMA Commissioner with chair endorsement, a ministerial appointed member of the recent Local Government review panel, a crown-appointed Freshwater Commissioner, a recipient of the NZ Planning Institute’s ‘Nancy Northcroft Planning Practice Supreme Award’.

Panelists include, renowned singer-songwriter and presenter Ria Hall, Artist Duane Moyle, who currently has work on display at Toi Tauranga POP UP Gallery, and Josh Te Kani one half of Noa Blanket.
