Jess Johnson has described the ceramic objects she curated in Antireality perversion void as ‘by makers who work from the underbelly of contemporary ceramics.’ Their aesthetic sensibilities range from gothic macabre to the magical and mythological via punk. There is a sense that alternative realities or speculative future have been built through their clay making.

Join us to hear Justine Olsen, Curator Decorative Art & Design at Te Papa Tongarewa as she speaks to these works and the power ceramic objects and vessels have as containers for whole new worlds.

Justine Olsen has been Curator of Decorative Art and Design at Te Papa Tongarewa since 2007. Her portfolio includes international and historic collections; her special areas of interest include contemporary design and New Zealand modernism 1930s to the 1960s.
