Join artist Angela Kilford (Te Whanau A Kai, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu) for a walking tour in connection with our current show George Watson: Beauty Incarnate. This tour begins in the Hancock foyer at City Gallery Wellington and hīkoi through Wellington’s waterfront and cityscape, finishing at the gates of Katherine Mansfield House and Garden in Thorndon.

Along the way Angela introduces participants to hidden and overlooked parts of Te Whanganui-a-Tara and the histories enmeshed in this whenua that challenge Western colonial narratives of place.

Participants should wear sensible shoes.

Please register your interest and book now as places are limited.

Angela Kilford (Te Whanau A Kai, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu) is an artist, designer, educator and researcher living in Te Whanganui A Tara. Her current research practice focuses on how mātauranga Māori and Māori participation can inform textile design practice and research to produce ways to benefit Māori communities and to sustain Papatūānuku.

Alongside this, Angela's art practice explores the whakapapa of local ecology and the lesser-known connections between living and non-living entities. These ideas are examined and expressed through walking, performance, collaborative making, large scale public installations and writing.
