Over the coming weeks {Suite} Wellington will be featuring the work of all of our artists in a series of weekly rolling exhibits. Organised chronologically, artists’ work will be exhibited in the order that they joined the gallery. This week's install at {Suite} Wellington features a selection of works by Tia Ansell and Casey Jeffery.

Melbourne based New Zealand artist Tia Ansell has a multi-disciplinary practice that brings together modes and processes of making: weaving, painting, tiling and sculpture are combined through her assemblages. Her works are presented as bundles, referencing the history of craftsmanship through blending ancient modalities - such as back-strap and shaft-loom weaving - within her contemporary practice. Her works reflect the urban residential environment

Ansell won the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award in 2017 and was the recipient of the Majlis travelling scholarship (2017), Valerie Albiston scholarship (2015-17) and the National Gallery of Victoria prize (2014).

Casey Jeffery is a Melbourne based painter who’s practice investigates the vernacular of Australian Suburbia. Ornamental features of suburban architecture and domesticity feature in Casey’s work: the fold of a window awning, striped fabric and cast-iron fences are removed from their context, often depicted with illusions of line, colour and depth.

Jeffery completed her Bachelor of Fine Art (First Class Honours) at The Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, in 2018. She was the recipient of The John Vickery Scholarship and the Fiona Myer Award, was a finalist for the Majlis Travelling Scholarship and was awarded a mentorship with WestSpace Gallery, Melbourne.
