ANHEDONIA

By Eliza Glyn and Sarah McGaughran

Born in 1975, Eliza Glyn grew up in Dorset, UK and studied visual art and dance choreography at Bennington College, USA. Glyn is known for her oil on board paintings that float landforms in a colour field of rich earth tones and expressive vigorous studio still life’s on paper.

Over the past 3 years Eliza has been developing a series of self portraits that overlay the faces of formative figures in her life with her own reflected image.

This exhibition at New Lands marks the first time this body of work has been publicly presented.

Her work has featured in Art New Zealand and shown in many prestigious awards including Cleveland, Hope and Sons and the Aspiring Art Award, of which she was a runner up. She resides in Dunedin with her partner and two daughters and works full time from her studio in Port Chalmers.

Sarah McGaughran (BSc, BVA (Honours)) is an Ōtepoti-based artist whose practice explores the bodily horizon and sensory experience. Working across painting, sculpture, and sound, her practice explores concepts of interconnectedness, queerness, and the entanglement of the self with the exterior world.
