The 2019 Edition of Auckland Art Fair will take place from Wednesday 1 - Sunday 5 May at The Cloud, on Auckland’s CBD waterfront. With a focus on the art conversations of the Pacific-rim, the 40+ participating galleries come not only from across New Zealand, but also from Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Shanghai, Jakarta, Rarotonga and Santiago.
The gallery exhibitions will showcase the work of more than 150 of the best artists working in the region in both the main gallery section on the ground floor and on the mezzanine, in Piki Mai: Up Here^^, a section devoted to new galleries and artist run spaces. In addition, the 2019 curated Projects Programme, titled Whanaungatanga—an expression that may be translated in English as ‘kinship’, offers a chance to see ten commissioned works by early career artists, installed throughout The Cloud and with two of the projects extending to Britomart.
Visitors to the 2019 Fair will also be able to see and buy some of the best art books published in New Zealand, at the Art Fair bookshop, browse the Reading Room, created especially for the Fair by Samoa House Library, take a free guided tour of the Fair led by one of the Directors of some of Auckland’s leading non-profit organisations, hear talks by many of the artists participating in the Fair and enjoy the hospitality offered by Daily Bread and Coffee Supreme or enjoy the fine wines of Catalina Sounds, Nanny Goat Vineyards and Champagne Laurent Perrier.
