Chromatic intensity and intuitive mark-making reign supreme in Zara Dolan’s exhibition Chroma. Layers of sweeping and energetic gestures, in dark and bright hues, create a dynamic visual language in this vibrant suite of Monotype prints. By building the illusion of depth and space, through colour saturation and the application and manipulation of ink, a luminous and three-dimensional quality materializes within each unique work. Driven by colour choice and printing process, Zara’s abstract expressionist style is emotive, rhythmic, and immediate.

Born in Cavan in Southern Ireland, Zara Dolan gained a fine arts degree in painting and printmaking before moving to Wales where she attained a teaching certificate in art and design. In 2020 she studied and completed a Master of Fine Arts at Ilam School of Fine Art at the University of Canterbury. Rhythm Loop, in 2022, was her first solo exhibition of work with The Central Art Gallery. Zara resides in Ōtautahi Christchurch and is a full-time art practitioner.
