Lauren Lysaght is one of New Zealand's foremost social conscience artists and has exhibited extensively in New Zealand and internationally since the early 1980s. A multi-disciplinary artist, Lauren uses 'low-rent' materials that might be found at a $2 shop to create seductive and provocative works that bring attention to important issues and injustices such as disability, poverty, and mental illness.
Locust Jones currently lives and works in the Blue Mountains, Australia. In 2010 Locust completed a Masters of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts (Sydney University) where earlier in 1993 he completed an undergraduate degree in Print Media. Since graduating Locust has held over 25 solo exhibitions within Australia and internationally, including: Burn Freeze, David Krut Projects, New York (2014); Descent into the Mass Media Maelstrom, Galerie Patrick Ebensperger, Berlin (2014); 24HR News Feed, Christchurch Art Gallery, Christchurch, New Zealand (2013) and Some Mistakes were Perhaps Made, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, NSW (2012).
Pete Wheeler currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Dissonance, disjunction and discord describe the disparate themes Wheeler weaves together in his combinations of unexpected imagery. From his earliest exhibition Wheeler has never been reluctant to confront big issues. Social faux pas do not register in Wheeler's practice. He shamelessly makes verbose claims belying his personal opinion on themes including religion, sex and politics.
Ross Ritchie has been at the forefront of many artistic developments, and is one of New Zealand's leading post-modern artist. He is a figurative artist in the sense that his works have always denoted or referred to things, animate and inanimate, and the phenomena of the physical world. Ritchie has works in many private, corporate, museum and public collections, including Auckland Art Gallery, Dunedin Public Art Gallery and the Govett-Brewster.
Wanda Gillespie is an Australia/New Zealand contemporary artist based in Auckland. She uses sculpture and photography to explore fictions and ideas around history, culture, ritual and ceremony. Her sculptures are often presented as historical artefacts. Since graduating in 2009 from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Masters of Fine Arts, Wanda has exhibited regularly with recent solo exhibitions including Levitation Practice: lesson Two, Artweek Auckland, Levitation Practice, MARS Gallery, the Ceremonial Processions of Dreamers, Lindberg Galleries, the Antarctic Kingdom of Gondwanaland, Craft Victoria and Fehily Contemporary, Into the Void, Linden Contemporary Centre for the Arts, and Tana Swiwi, West Space, Melbourne.
