Marté Szirmay has long been regarded as one of New Zealand’s most accomplished artists. Her work is represented in private and public collections in New Zealand and abroad.

Creating sculptures for Marté is about creating a language of signs and symbols that transcend regional, cultural and social limitations. This new series of bronze works pays tribute to our Sun.

“Nothing is more important to us on Earth than the Sun. Without the Sun’s heat and light, the Earth would be a lifeless ball of ice-coated rock.

The Sun warms our seas, stirs our atmosphere, generates our weather patterns, and gives energy and light to the growing green plants – the basis of all food chains for animal species – and oxygen for life on Earth. The Sun is incredibly special and precious to us!

It takes the Sun 250 million years to complete one rotation around the Milky Way – the “Galactic Year” or “Cosmic Year”. The last time the Solar System was in this position in the Milky Way, there were still dinosaurs on Earth. The next time, who knows?”
