Recent McCahon House Resident Ana Iti (Te Rarawa) presents a new exhibition of work created during her time at the McCahon House studio between July and September 2020. The exhibition will look at the writing of Māori woman authors, and the journey of language learning.
About the residency:
The McCahon House residency aims to give artists an opportunity to develop their work through a supportive programme while living in the environment that impacted so profoundly on the work of Colin McCahon.
In 2020, Iti also presented new work for Te Tuhi’s billboards series titled Kimihia te ?hua, based on past issues of Te Pipiwharauroa: he kupu whakamarama, a reo Māori newspaper in circulation between 1899 and 1913. Taking a similar approach, she also presented Takato on the Auckland Art Gallery sculpture terrace, and Howling at a safe distance for CIRCUIT Artist Film and Video. Iti is currently working on a new commission that will be part of an exhibition at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in 2021.
