Inspiration Group attempts to reimagine ethnic identity in relationship to contemporary art, through a provocative art making practice. Intricacies of identity are examined through visual images (often reappropriated), sculpture and text. Cultural signifiers are overlaid ambiguously by the artists to denote the dilution of these signifiers from their intended meaning by the system that is contemporary art. The work of Inspiration Group is both a lament to the sacredness of cultural meaning that has been lost and a possible blueprint for young ethnically diverse artists to reclaim this loss.
