As kaitiaki of her tiny block of Waitaha land, artist Hannah Kidd (Ngāti Toa) has witnessed regular nightly devastation of her newly-planted natives. Preyed upon by both native and introduced species, Hannah tips the scales on her lifesize, freestanding hare with large, oversized wall-hung Kōwhai pods and seeds—responding to a constant fight for survival, displacement, and colonisation.

Hannah graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts—majoring in Sculpture—in 2001 from the Dunedin School of Fine Arts, Otago Polytechnic. She has since established a unique style and sustainable practice.
