Maui’s practice comes from a life of drawing. He grew up in Mangere Central and has painted in garages, makeshift studios under the stairs, and sometimes in rented studios. Now, after a career as a teacher then an architect, and raising six kids, he’s focusing on his painting. (Bravo I say!)
These four pieces were conceived on a trip to Rarotonga last winter inspired by the warmth, the colour and the gentle flow of island life; Raro, Velvet Kelp, Fakaulo, and Seaweed.
