Katherine Mansfield House & Garden is home to a rich collection of objects and textiles from the 19th century. For this exhibition, guest curator Leimomi Oakes selects textiles and garments from the collection, highlighting the techniques used to create them and offering a glimpse into the world of their makers. You’ll be able to get hands-on with contemporary technical samples and explore period craft and sewing manuals. Just as Katherine Mansfield used subtle observations and descriptive details to allow readers to step into the world of her characters, this exhibition will enable you to step back in time and ‘meet the making’ of these historical treasures.

This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Threads: Textiles Festival. With more than 15 free exhibitions and a roster of workshops, talks and tours at venues spanning Lower Hutt, Petone, Thorndon and the central city, Threads sheds new night on contemporary textile practices in Aotearoa and beyond. The festival will take place across Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington from 16-20 March 2022, read more here.
