Christchurch artist Steve Carr offers a chilled-out take on a familiar spectacle. In his six-screen video installation, Chasing the Light (2018), drone-mounted cameras observe a fireworks display from multiple viewpoints simultaneously, placing viewers inside the action. Presented without sound, Carr undercuts the drama.
Carr explains: ‘I have never had a shoot that was so difficult to pull together. They were the best drone pilots in the country and among the best in the world, and we were asking them to do the impossible. It was one take.’
