‘I made these paintings in between terms, on occasional free weekdays and term breaks while in my second year of being a school teacher. It is special to still be painting even though the years seem to be moving past me at an alarming rate.
Forever, incredibly inspired by the work of Joanna Paul, who made quick, lovely observations of beauty in between earning for her children. There is something familiar there.
Many of these paintings are from the lush harvests at a family place in Whenuakite, and from other moments enjoying pretty stillness, nice lighting and treasures.’

Yvette Velvin, is originally from Rangatikei. She graduated with BFA Hons, Massey University, Wellington, 2015. She is currently based in Tamaki Makaurau, teaching year 7 students at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate.
