Anton Hart and Jenny Bornholdt
Anton Hart is a Wellington artist and sculptor with a background in design and advertising, including at Y&R, FCB and Saatchi & Saatchi. Anton has developed a specialty in craft beer branding. One of his proud moments was designing the iconic bottle for Tuatara Brewery.
His experience working with cutting-edge media and creative technology allows him to explore ideas about representation and identity in a new way, reinterpreting traditional images and objects using modern materials and techniques.
Anton’s recent works are carved in sand. A shape-shifting sand that seems a ridiculous, impossible choice as a material to shape into solid forms. After two years of experimentation, Anton found a 3D printing company in Europe able to fabricate his idea. His latest exhibition was at Bowen Galleries in Te Whanganui-a-Tara called Standing Songs, a collaboration with the poet Jenny Bornholdt.
Jenny Bornholdt is a poet and anthologist who has been publishing collections of poetry for more than thirty years. Her poems have been continuously recognised in publications such as the Best New Zealand Poems online anthology, and she has been selected for numerous awards and fellowships. At the end of 2013 Jenny was acknowledged in the New Year’s Honours list as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, and then in 2020 was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement for poetry.
Jenny has collaborated with various artists over a number of years, most recently with Anton Hart. She came up with short phrases of 2-3 words which he has incorporated into his standing form sculptures.
Victor Berezovsky
Victor’s parents emigrated to New Zealand from the Russian community of Harbin, China, in the 1960s. Born In Wellington, he graduated from Canterbury University, Ilam, majoring in painting.
With painting at its core, Victor has produced a diverse body of works for private galleries, institutions and public spaces. Victor’s work is often considered to have a strong sense of European reference and sensibility - creating a type of “Contemporary Folk”. This connection was deepened by living and exhibiting in Germany for 7 years.
Since moving back to NZ in 2017, he has continued to develop his distinctive visual language, bringing together historical painting histories and responses to local stimuli from his immediate environment at the South Coast of Wellington.
“Ostensibly seductive, the work of Berezovsky can be understood as still life, architectural landscape, but above all as portrait, and as an interior view of man.“
Victor lives with his family in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
{Suite} Gallery is a well known and well established New Zealand gallery. It has been owned and operated by David Alsop since 2008.
