As we move towards summer, closing off another year to spend time with loved ones, Artspace Aotearoa brings together a series of screenings, talks, gatherings and performances as part of our Summer Programme. Special events will take place in our main exhibition spaces on Level One before Artspace Aotearoa moves downstairs in 2020.

At the centre of our Summer Programme will be screenings of works from CIRCUIT (Aotearoa New Zealand) alongside the Inuit film collective Isuma (Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, NunatuKavut).

CIRCUIT’s Personal Space programme curated by Serena Bentley brings together five newly made cinema works from Aotearoa and Australia that explore the notion of ‘home’.

Isuma’s groundbreaking cinematic work depicts and advocates the various ecological and social issues arising from their home and bringing those stories to Aotearoa. Isuma TV is a project of Isuma Distribution International Inc., Canada's first media distribution company specialising in Inuit and Aboriginal films. Isuma TV was launched in January 2008 with programming from a coalition of independent producers and non-profit partners, including: Igloolik Isuma Productions, (producers of the award-winning Inuit-language Fast Runner Trilogy: Atanarjuat The Fast Runner, The Journals of Knud Rasmussen, and Before Tomorrow); Nunavut Independent TV Network (NITV); Arnait Video Productions; Artcirq; ImagineNATIVE Film+Media Arts Festival; Vtape; Native Communications Society of the NWT (producers of the historic TV series Our Dene Elders); and other non-profit agencies.

The Artspace Aotearoa Summer Programme will recognise and commemorate other unexpected forms of support and works popping up from the past.

Fiona Clark will be presenting a one-day performative installation called The Pumpkin Register, a residue from The Bill, an exhibition from our 2016 programme. In December we will host a Cash & Carry fundraiser evening that will present the opportunity to buy many of our editions. For the final event of the year, Artspace Aotearoa will have a Raumati Party on Friday 20 December on Level One. This event will be a chance for everyone to fare well this special place that has hosted events, exhibitions and countless conversations over the past 21 years.
