This group of works is based on an idea of receding planes. I am thinking of the enhancement of depth produced by the flats of an eighteenth century stage set, or of the space inside the folded card of a pop-up book. That stepping idea is played out here across the surface of these pieces.
An artist can reconstruct the human form to tell their own stories. Here I dramatise the works to make the figures more immediate, more present in the room. The facial features are directed so a to perform their ambiguous roles in the theatre of the body.
