Starkwhite is delighted to present Tarota, the new still life series from Dr Fiona Pardington (Ngāi Tahu, Kati Mamoe and Ngāti Kahungunu).

Tarota sits in a space between European esotericism, Māori tikanga, and Pardington’s unique personal artistic vision. Named for the deck of divinatory cards and their ancient archetypal symbols, Tarota is the artist's exploration of her own visual vocabulary of private and mystical symbolism.

This new body of work was developed after Pardington's research trip to the Queenstown-Lakes district in early 2021. Various photographs within the series contain elements sourced by the artist during this time. See all eight images and an essay by Andrew Paul Wood at the Starkwhite website here

Starkwhite looks forward to welcoming you to our new gallery at 1–7 Earl Street, Queenstown. With almost 100 square metres of space filled with natural light, the gallery will host Fiona Pardington's exceptional new body of work.
